La Catrina

This piece was commisioned by the the "Mexican Heritage Center & Gallery" of Stockton California. This image was used as their official 2015 Dia De Los Muertos festival poster, which you will find under the EVENTS tab.

The image is both colorful and vibrant and captures exactly what "Dia De Los Muertos" is all about. In the Latin culture this annual event is held as a tribute and celebration for loved ones that have passed on. As a symbol of this transition in life, a Monarch butterfly was added to the right shoulder of La Catrina.

La Revolucion

La Revolucion is a piece inspired by one of my favorite Mexican Muralists, David Alfaro Siqueiros(1896-1074). The motivation for this painting was triggered after a visit to Castillo De Chapultepec in Mexico City, D.F.

Castillo De Chapultepec is a castle which sits on top of a hill in the center of Mexico City. The castle is covered in wall to wall murals. This particular piece is similar to one Siquieros did in the castle in reference to the Mexican revolution. The only difference between mine and Siquieros's painting is that his show the soldiers in the flesh standing side by side, whereas mine are all skeletons.

Murphys Wine Tasting

This piece was inspired by the old mining town of Murphys in the sierra foothills where most of my "Dia De Los Muertos" pieces are on exhibit. The structure this skeleton is walking next too while wine tasting is suppose to resemble the Old Murphys Hotel.

Dama De Rojo

This piece was commisioned by Bodega Del Sur Winery in Murphys, Ca, to be used as their very first Dia De Los Muertos wine label. The winery owners had been wanting a Catrina wine label for some time, and fortunately I was given the opportunity to help in achieving that dream. It was an exciting project and even more overwelming by its immediate popularity when their 2012 Carignan was released with the image.

If you'd like to order a bottle with this image, you can contact the winery at the following number.

Frida Kahlo

This piece was originally inspired from a photo I came across of a very young Frida Kahlo holding a revolver with a belt loaded with bullets. Although, after doing more research on the image, I found that it was a photoshop creation of famous photographer Robert Toren. Either way, I thought it was a great image of her, even if it was fabricated.
